Recipe for Hard Boiled Eggs
Hard-boiled eggs are one of my favorite things to meal prep for the week. If you wake up late and need to grab a bite before you run out the door garb a hard-boiled egg. If your day is packed with meetings and you don’t know where you will squeeze a meal in, eat a hard-boiled egg. They are the perfect holdover meal to get you through a busy day. They are also very easy to cook. My mom showed me a few easy tips when I was young to get the perfect hard-boiled eggs every time. I’m excited to share this with you and I will be putting together a video to go with this post so you have something to follow along with.
To cook hard-boiled eggs, simply place them in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil, then cover the pan and remove it from the heat. Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes, then drain and rinse them with cold water. Peel and enjoy!
Ingredients:
6 large eggs(more eggs would clutter the pan)
Enough water to cover the eggs by 1 inch
1 tablespoon of salt
1 tablespoon white vinegar (optional)
There are a few reasons why you might want to add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to the water when you hard boil eggs or at least these were the reasons my mom told me to do it.
It helps to prevent the eggs from cracking. The vinegar helps to break down the calcium carbonate in the eggshell, making it less likely to crack when the eggs are cooked.
It helps the eggs to cook evenly. The vinegar helps to raise the pH of the water, which makes it easier for the heat to penetrate the eggs. This results in eggs that are cooked evenly throughout.
It makes the eggs easier to peel. The vinegar helps to loosen the proteins in the egg whites, making them easier to peel away from the shell.
Instructions:
Place the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan.
Add enough water to cover the eggs by 1 inch.
Add the salt to the water.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once the water is boiling, cover the saucepan and remove it from heat.
Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes.
Drain the water and run cold water over the eggs for 1-2 minutes.
Peel and enjoy!
